Boyfriend and I were trying to decide if we wanted to go out or just stay in, order pizza or Chinese, and veg out. In the end, we went out. Because . . . we had no kids AND we HAD A COUPON!
Middle aged dating right there folks!
The coupon was to Los Cabos on Quince Road (linked to their Yelp review since they don't have a webpage.) Neither of us had been there before but neither of us ever really says no to Mexican or seafood either and it was both. We knew we had to try it.
We walked in -- he in kakis and a polo and me in total preppy girl clothes -- and he was waved with a wand while my bag was checked. Wait, what? This is Memphis but REALLY? I was not expecting that for a Mexican restaurant! We grabbed a couple seats in the bar and began pouring over the (fairly extensive) menu, trying to decide what to order.
The service was both friendly and prompt; our waitress arrived before we'd barely had a chance to get seated. Boyfriend was super happy that they had Dos Equis lager on tap (this never happens in Memphis . . . always the amber; never the lager) and we both ordered a large. When the beers came they were HUGE. I would say we could've split one but, yeah, no. We're beer people and we both needed every drop of that 32 ouncer.
I went with the arroz con Cameron because SHRIMP and also because the picture on the menu made me want to LICK that menu. It looked so good. Boyfriend is a creature of habit and went with his usual: beef fajitas. While we waited for our entrees, we dove into the chips and salsa. The salsa was a tad spicy but not so much you couldn't enjoy it.
Our entrees arrived fairly quickly and DAMN, they were delicious! Let me be real with you, okay? This is Tennessee. You're not going to get the same level of Mexican deliciousness as in California or Texas. But for Memphis? This was definitely some of the best I'd had. My dish was cheesy, the shrimp was cooked just right, and it was SO flavorful. I forgot my leftovers in Boyfriend's fridge and was definitely kicking myself the next day: I know they would've made an awesome lunch.
The ambience in Los Cabos was pretty cool, too. TV's were all over the bar area (we had to watch the Bulls game) and a DJ was spinning when we got there. The set up looks like they have a band on some nights as well. It was still family friendly, though, as we saw several small children there. It's Memphis, of course, so the people watching didn't disappoint. The couple sitting behind me got in a fight because he was looking through her phone. AWESOME. I love Memphis!
The service was great. The food was awesome. The beer was ice cold and there was a lot of it. The ambience was nice. And the best part? The price! Two entrees (including fajitas and seafood) and two big ass beers and we only paid $30. Don't forget, though, we did have a coupon! #Middleageddating
All in all, two thumbs up for Los Cabos.
We'll be back.
